Teatro Cervantes (Cervantes Theater) was build and in 1921 and named after the Spanish author who wrote "Don Quijote, Man of la Mancha," Miguel de Cervantes. In 1961 the theater was rebuilt after a fire that damaged much of the building. Teatro Cervantes is said to be the most important theater for the production of plays by Latin American playwrights.
