Located just 28 kilometers from Buenos Aires City in the north of Greater Buenos Aires, Tigre is an attractive city connecting to a network of quaint market towns and river ports. Established 1611, the name is derived from ‘tigres’ or Yaguaretes (South American tiger) hunted to extinction in this region.
Tigre is a leafy, waterside, weekend retreat that lies on the Paraná Delta, bordered to the north by an important branch of the Paraná River, the Paraná de las Palmas River, and to the east by the Río de la Plata. The Luján River, flowing southeast into the Río de la Plata divides this region, creating a maze of waterways and islands given over to first-class waterside living, agriculture and light industry. These navigable waterways connect the major rivers of the region making Tigre an attractive centre for water sports such as yachting, rowing, and fishing.
Your luxury tour sets off early in a private vehicle with your host. The drive north takes you through the upper class neighborhoods with stops at San Isidro’s magnificent gothic cathedral and colonial mansions.
On arrival to Tigre, you will marvel the English-style rowing clubs, countless marinas, and elegant mansions of the “Belle Époque”, as well as upscale lodges, restaurants, teahouses. You will visit the recently restored Tigre Hotel that transports you back in time to the roaring 20’s for a coffee break.
Your river expedition of the Paraná Delta is taken aboard a vintage mahogany long boat, a great favorite of travelers to navigate the web of inter-connecting rivers and stream. This un-spoilt labyrinth of waterways is filled wildlife and private islands and we have selected a perfect spot on the monumental Parana de la Palmas to either picnic English style or b-b-q “the gaucho way” while tasting some of Argentina’s renowned Malbecs.
This adventure needs some planning as your personal tastes and banqueting are planed carefully.
After lunch, a swim and or a rest, and we head back to the port and then a leisurely drive to Buenos Aires City. We also can stay the night in rustic style or at a carefully chosen private estanicia only accessible by boat – just ask.
